The Future Of Packaging Is Circular...

At the Re-Up Refill Shop, we source products that are either refillable or compostable. So, whether it’s organic olive oil, facial serum, shampoo, local honey, or organic brown rice, you can refill it without all that pesky single-use waste. Or, for items like sponges and brushes, when they have exceeded their life span, you can compost them.  

Just in the same way we ask you, our customers, to continue to reuse your containers every time you refill, we do the same with our suppliers, actively pushing and supporting them in reducing their waste streams by going reusable.

This is what we refer to as circular – our vendors take back their containers, to wash and reuse them. Although not every single product in our store comes this way, we are proud to say that the overwhelming majority of our liquid products do, including liquid laundry detergent, hand soap, dish soap, all purpose cleaner, as well as all our oils, vinegars, and sweeteners. That's a lot of gallons of product!

If a product we carry is not supplied with circular packaging, it's very likely because we cannot find a circular bulk option that meets our sourcing values. In most of those situations (as is true with our shampoos and conditioners), we wash, sanitize, and reuse the supplier containers, helping to keep them out of the waste stream.

Although the plastic pollution crisis continues, a recent Guardian article sees circular packaging as a huge part of the solution...

“The total mass of plastics now exceeds the total mass of all living mammals. That to me is a pretty clear indication that we’ve crossed a boundary. We’re in trouble, but there are things we can do to reverse some of this… Shifting to a circular economy is really important… That means changing materials and products so they can be reused, not wasted.”
