Organic Hazelnuts
Hazelnuts are great for snacking or trail mixes, use them in baking and confections, dice them up and sprinkle on salads or ice cream. Enjoy this organic delight grown in the beautiful state of Oregon. These hazelnuts have not been pasteurized. The local organic hazelnut growers, Lackner Brothers Farm and Meridian Orchards, have been producing hazelnuts for many years. The Lackner Brothers Farm was established in 1962, but farming has been part of Jim's heritage for even longer. Some of the land he tills has been in the family since 1884. Jim and his family strive to be good stewards of the land and manage it by increasing the fertility of the soil for future generations. The Birkemeiers steward 80 organic acres called Meridian Orchards, established in 1965, in Aurora, Oregon. The Birkemeiers believe the most effective strategy against disease is to keep the orchard healthy. They've worked for years to perfect their own compost tea (made with cured manure), which they use as a natural fertilizer around the base of the trees. They also spray the trees with kelp to nourish them through foliar feeding.
