Become A Certified Green Business...

We learned a lot about our business and all our systems on the path to becoming a Certified Green Business. We are proud to be a part of the Green Business community and to have been certified for three years now! Plus, our refill shop has achieved the highest status offered, that of “Innovator” : )

What’s required of Certified Green Businesses?

• They must exceed all environmental regulations, as well as implement specific practices to reduce pollution, save water, conserve energy, and protect human health.
• In addition, for the Innovators (which we are), they must meet a social responsibility metric to ensure that they are doing good by their community and employees.

Here is some of the diversion data from Re-Up, and from the other 4,000 Certified Green Businesses in California...

• Over 400,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions reduced, the equivalent of planting over 20,000 urban acres of trees a year for ten years.
• Enough kilowatt-hours saved to power over 25,000 houses for an entire year.
• 100,000 metric tons of waste diverted from the landfill, almost 15,000 garbage trucks worth of waste eliminated.

So, we encourage you to support local certified Green Businesses. We would also recommend getting certified if you are a business owner, or if you work at a business with community and environmental values. Getting certified is a good way to evaluate how well your business is doing in terms of sustainability. It’s also a good kick in the butt to do better : )
